Massapequa Takes Action Coalition works with many partners across the Massapequas to prevent substance misuse and promote healthy families. This fall, the Massapequa Elks Lodge #2162 donated nine hundred drug awareness youth coloring books which were distributed as part of the Massapequa High School SADD Club's SAFE Halloween. The Elks strive to better the Massapequas with drug awareness programs, hoop and soccer shoot contests for kids.
In addition to providing youth resources, dedicated SADD Club volunteers stuffed and distributed nine hundred MTAC Tote Bags. The bags included “Keeping Youth Drug Free” booklets; a parents/caregiver resource to help families establish and maintain good communication with their children. Studies have shown that parents have a significant influence on young people’s decisions about alcohol or drugs, especially when parents create supportive and nurturing environments in which their children can make their own decisions.
