Parenting, like any other skill, is something we learn, and learning “on the job” can be frustrating. As parents we become confused when, after constant repetition of the same theme, children still do not respond. “Active Parenting” is perhaps the most effective program ever offered in the “how to” of raising children.
YES Community Counseling Center and Massapequa Takes Action Coalition will host the Active Parenting NOW program for parents of children in grades K-6 at the Massapequa Public Library, Bar Harbour Building from 7:15pm – 8:45pm for six consecutive Tuesdays beginning November 13th through December 18th. The cost of the program is $40 per family for the entire series including a workbook. The reduced fee is possible thanks to the support of Senator John Brooks.
Active Parenting NOW is designed to equip parents with new skills and enhance the ones they already have in order to face the challenges during the lifeline journey as a parent. The video-based parent education series will address how parents can improve communication with our children; teach responsibility and other important values; handle problems as they come up; defuse power struggles; cope with difficult topics such as drugs, bullying & sex; stimulate independence as our children grow older and encourage our kids to be their best!
If you are interested in attending, please contact Kathleen Coletta at YES Community Counseling Center, 516-799-3203 X127. Registration is on a first come, first serve basis.
